This is the first website I’ve ever built, and I’ve done it using a simple, template-based program called iWeb (from Apple’s iLife ’08 package). The template is designed for someone who only has about five pages to put on their website. I have too much material to fit in their template design, so what I’ve had to do is make “subsidiary” websites that branch off from this opening site.
From this page, you can access all my “subsidiary” websites, so to speak. Each of the links below takes you to a subsidiary website that concentrates on particular themes, such as music or travel. Once you are in that subsidiary website, the most easily identified links (at the top of the page) will reference only that subsidiary website. However, you can find other links on the pages to my other subsidiary websites, or come back to here. On most pages, those links are in the upper left corner as text-only links (as you see on this page), or you’ll find the linked pictures below at the bottom of most pages. Click those pictures to visit my subsidiary web pages.
An Explanation Of The Organization Of This Website
Like many people, my desire to make a website is for
self-expression. And of course, the people who will find this website the most meaningful are those who know me.
But certainly I hope that I have posted material here that is interesting to someone who may not know me, in a way that is food for thought, or in the case of music or other media, something other fans of music or movies enjoy reading from a fellow fan.
Listed below are the topics I cover in this website; you can read through them to see if there’s something for you.
Welcome to my website
Windows users: Please see browser notes at the bottom of this page.
My Old .Mac Website (R.I.P.)
I’m using iLife ’08 to make this website (the iWeb portion of iLife). There were some pictures on the web that I posted from iLife ’05’s iPhoto on to my .Mac website. Until I’ve replaced those pictures in this new website, I’ll leave those old ones up. (Or Apple may pull old .Mac pages before that happens.) <--This is what has happened. Apple has deleted all .Mac websites, so this site is no longer available. I’ll try to get those pictures back up on this iWeb site.
Welcome to my website! Actually, it’s more like my collection of websites. Consider this the “parent” and all my subject websites the “children.” Listed below are my
Music is my #1 interest. In this section you’ll find information about my musical tastes, there are links to my Annual Music Awards, and you can find my own Music Central Hall Of Fame.
In this section, I review all media except for music--movies, books, and broadcasting in particular. (The music, of course, is covered in Music Central.)
Religion, politics, and other issues regarding society are the topics of my writings in this section. This section is not well developed yet, but has some links to specific postings in my blog that are related to these topics.
Currently, the main feature in this section is my 3-part series entitled, “Identity Crisis of an Evangelical,” which is original material first posted on this website, where I ponder what it means to be an Evangelical. Also in this section I write about the Bible, worship, and cover Frank Schaeffer’s criticism of Catholicism and Protestantism and a book that shows why men hate church. Finally, I have reprinted from my blog two major essays of mine, “The End Of The Christian Right” and “The Next Reformation.”
CHURCHES THAT I’VE REGULARLY ATTENDED
Since I’ve moved a lot, I’ve had the opportunity to attend a lot of churches. I list them all here, plus write full stories about some of them. (Only two full stories so far, but there are more to come!)
This section includes writings about some churches I’ve visited but never regularly attended. (So far I’ve only written about two, but there are more to come.)
I love to travel, and I have been fortunate to have many opportunities. So far, this is mostly travel pictures, but I hope to have more stories about my travels in the future.
Note: The photos page has an RSS subscribe button; if you click this, your RSS reader will notify you whenever pictures are updated to that page.
MICHIGAN: THE GREAT LAKES STATE
In this section, which is not developed yet, I intend to include pictures from the area I live in and the places I’ve visited in Michigan.
J LEE AT HOME
Another section as of yet undeveloped, here I intend to include pictures from around home, including of our cats and our garden. In the future, I also want to talk about all the different places I’ve lived in my life.
THE HARSHBARGER FAMILY
What a clan I’m a part of! This section is not developed yet, but eventually I’ll include stuff about my extended family.
J LEE THE AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER
I love to take pictures--I have about 9000 digital pictures just since I got my first digital camera in 2003, not to mention the thousands of 35mm pictures I have. In this section, which does not exist yet, I want to feature some of my favorite photographs and discuss photography.
J LEE AT BORDERS
I worked at the headquarters of Borders for almost ten years. In this future section, I intend to post pictures from that era.
J LEE THE TEACHER
Now I’m teaching again. In this future section, I intend to post pictures from the school I work at, and also include papers I wrote in my master’s degree program.
This is where I upload photos that I don’t intend to put on my website, or I put them here temporarily until I get a website page for them. The .Mac Web Gallery (now called Mobile Me Gallery) is a cool way to look at pictures--you can choose various methods of viewing them. You can do an RSS subscribe simply by clicking that button on the gallery page, so when I put up new photo albums, your RSS reader will notify you.
NOTE: Apple discontinued MobileMe in June 2012, and this web gallery disappered then. It’s such a shame--their web gallery is the best presentation of pictures I’ve seen.

BROWSER NOTES FOR WINDOWS USERS
I strongly recommend that you use Google Chrome or Apple Safari to view this website. [As of 2012,] Firefox does not display some parts of pictures and also on some machines does not display the links at the top of each page. Internet Explorer 8 makes a total mess of my web pages, doubling pictures instead of reflecting them. For both proper display of my web pages, and clear font for reading, I strongly recommend that you use Google Chrome or Safari for Windows to view this site on Windows machines.
Some pages have songs that you can play, which are in QuickTime format; if your browser doesn’t have a QuickTime plug-in, you won’t be able to hear the songs, but it’s easy to download the plug-in from Apple.
Mac users, this site looks good on any browser I’ve checked (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera), and you don’t need to worry about a plug-in to hear the music because Macs come with QuickTime!
